Statement by Feminist initiative board 20151114
Hatred and terror has again claimed many innocent lives. Feminist Initiative is filled with disgust of and condemn all those actions.
At the time of writing, 153 lives were taken in Paris, 44 in Beirut 18 in Baghdad during the past few days. Hundreds more were injured and the numbers could rise. IS has claimed responsibility for all these terrorist attacks.
The war is not primarily fought through traditional military action, but by carefully selected strategic objectives. The violence does not strike blindly, but is an attack on an open and multicultural society.
During the past year, attacks were carried out against the freedom of expression, the freedom of movement and now our cultural expressions. It is the same violence and terror as in the countries that people are fleeing from. The aim is to create conflict, fear and hatred.
It is now more important than ever not to lose the fundamental values of our democracy. Every persons equal human rights, freedom of all people and the same inviolable dignity of human life. Every persons right to flee war and seek asylum. These rights are non negotiable. We can mix the actions of terrorists with the people fleeing that exact same violence. These heinous acts of terrorism should not make us turn our back on our fellow humans.
In these times we have to keep human rights at the forefront.
