It is with sorrow that we must inform you that Feminist Initiatives spokesperson Stina Sundberg passed peacefully Thursday evening February 3 at 5:00 pm after a battle with cancer. She leaves a void after herself in party leadership and and is missed by many.
Stina Sundberg was 56 yeras old and has been an important builder of Feminist Initiative from our very beginning. Stina was spokesperson together with Gudrun Schyman since March 2007 becoming Sweden’s first lesbian party leader. She was elected to the national board from our first congress in Örebro 2005.
Stina Sundberg was active her entire life within the Women’s, LGBT and Feminist movements. She was active in the Women’s House and Centrum in Gothenburg, the Lesbian Front and Girl’s Film among other. Professionally Stina worked as Equality manager within government in the Region of Western Sweden and previously worked as a teacher with adult education. She was involved in the creation and building of the Gothenburg Women’s Adult Education Center and was the principal there for many years. Furthermore she was the manager of the interest organization RIO which represented schools for adult education.
Stina Sundberg leaves a void after herself on the board of the party and Feminist Initiative and is and will be missed by many. We have not only lost a professional in our organization but a dear friend. Our thoughts go to her family.
The tireless battle against all forms of discrimination waged by Stina will be treasured as inspiration and continued in our feminist struggle.
Our warmest greetings,
